Yahoo.com

Yahoo is the third of our "Big Name" search engine sites. Yahoo was once the top search engine on the world wide web for a reason. First of all, their search engine is great. But I don't go to yahoo for the search engine, that, I choose Google for. Whats great about yahoo is the entertainment options and feature choices.

Yahoo's Main Page features the breaking national news, world news, local news, and financial news. They also have their big articles at the very top box. In categories of Featured, Entertainment, Sports, and Video. Their user options are on the top right box, search engine at the very top, and all the other features to the left, listed.

First off, Yahoo! Mail. Yahoo's mail service is not the same as many of its competitors, while you get all the same features that every web-mail service gives, you also get spam protection, as well as "Unlimited" storage space for your e-mails, yes, you heard me, unlimited. Yahoo lets you create folders to organize your mail, a notepad, a calendar, contacts list, and even an RSS Feed folder. That means if you read a certain blog or news website very often, you can just get the RSS Link from their website, and create a new feed in Yahoo Mail. Then, you simply click on the name of the Blog, in your mail folders, and you can see all the blog or news entries.

Next, the messenger created by Yahoo, cleverly named, Yahoo! Messenger. Essentially an instant messenger allows you to have conversations online with other people that use the same messenger. If you know anyone who uses Yahoo Messenger, you just add them to your buddy list, and then you two can chat away. This messenger allows sending of any file type, or stream video from your web cam or sound from your microphone. One feature that I found interesting that I haven't seen from other messengers is a Message History feature. This allows you to index and save the conversations you've had with other people.

Yahoo has its own Internet Radio service as well! Well, not quite a radio station of their own, it's even better. Yahoo lets you create your own radio station for you to listen to for free. You check which genres of music you like, then you can type in any specific artists you really like, and click create. In the Yahoo Music section of their website, they also have the top 100 charts for every type of music they keep track of. From Reggae to Country, Jazz to Metal. Also in that section is pretty much every recent music video made for you to watch, also for free. Maybe you don't like to be browsing the internet with your radio playing, or maybe your internet connection cuts out all the time. Well, Yahoo also has a music download service. The usual price per song is about 1.00 and they have gift cards that you can buy in stores to buy songs, or they take all forms of online payment methods. They also have a free 14-Day trial of their music service, if you want to give that a try.

Along with all that for their users, they also have the local forecast, horoscopes, and local news and events on the top right panel of the page. Remember, all of the services above are absolutely FREE. Yes, Free, moving on.

Now to begin the left panel of the main page, the other features of Yahoo.com. The top one is Yahoo! Answers, which is basically a forum, where you post a question, and other users respond to them with their answers. You can also help other users by answering their questions. Next is autos. Looking for a car? Well you may just find your dream car here, advanced car search from Yahoo. Not only can you find a car, but you can also find financing for a car, and car insurance here and compare prices between them all.

Tracking your stocks and finances can be very diffucult for some people, but just click on Finance and you can find current market value of every stock on the stock market. Finance news is available in much more depth on this page, and person finance and banking help is here, filled with fun calculators and ways to monitor and budget your money. Yahoo! Groups is a way for people to get together and discuss any topic they may desire. HotJobs is a way for people to find local jobs, see job listings, and post their resume. Maps to and from, Movie Times and Tickets, Real Estate, and Shopping can all be found from the as well.

Paid Features

Yahoo Personals
One is Yahoo Personals. Yahoo! Personals is a great way to find your new love or just a quick romance. Extreme searching and comparison matching makes the matches you get back extremely close matches to find the one who suits you best. This does come at a price though, and they have different pricing for different subscriptions, so read more in-depth on that page to find out more.

Yahoo Web Hosting
Another Paid-For service is Web Hosting. Yahoo offers a very nice web hosting service with excellent customer support. The Web-Hosting deal that Yahoo offers is incredible. They state that you get Unlimited Web Space, Unlimited Bandwidth, and Unlimited Email storage, AND a Free Domain name, for only $11.95 a month. This is an incredible rate for the product you're looking at.

Yahoo! Mail Plus
The last paid service they offer is Yahoo! Mail Plus. This allows an attachment size increase from 5mb per message, to 20mb per message. This means you can send larger files in attachments. It also eliminates all the pesky ads in your e-mail homepage. It also enables POP3 Mail, which means you can use an E-Mail program like Microsoft Outlook with your e-mail, and Stationary for your mail.

There are even more features to Yahoo, that I would have to take up pages and pages of the blog to describe! I give Yahoo.com a 5/5.

MSN.com

MSN.com is a website that is made to do it all. Every since Microsoft melded together with MSN.com, they've really begun packing some heat as a top popularity website. They have e-mail accounts, their own Instant Messenger, Games, Forums, Stock Prices, and more. All these features are real cool and everything, but honestly, I don't really like it. But I am a very minimalistic person, so all these cluttered up boxes for different topics doesn't really do me too good.

Their e-mail service is decent. A modest spam-filter, but a gigantic free e-mail storage space. Before the Microsoft merge, it was about 25 megabytes. After the merge, it is 5 gigabytes, thats 5000 megabytes. Of course there are rivals that out-do even that massive storage space, like Google's gMail.

Everything that you can do on MSN.com that requires access needs a Windows Live account, which can be created on the MSN website. This is also good for all Microsoft accounts as well, as it's all linked together.

You must remember that MSN is originally a news company, so you will find news on every topic in the world all in one place on this website. On the main page many different category boxes should be there with different kinds of news in each one. The news does not require a Windows Live account to view.

I give it a 3/5.

Buy.com

Buy.com is a huge store with a lot of different categories of items for sale. Along with there large selection of stable priced goods, they accept many forms of payment. A bonus goes out to Google Checkout users, with a $10 discount to new google checkout users. They also accept PayPal and all major credit cards. One nice thing about a site like this versus a site like eBay is reliability. When you buy something on eBay from another user, it could take weeks for them to get up and ship your item. With a site like Buy.com, you can be sure it'll be there faster than most eBay sellers can get it to you.

Another neat little thing on their site is that they have an entire section of the site for Reviews of products they sell, and news on technology and such so you can keep up with the trends. It is really helpful to read reviews of products before you buy them. You don't want to order something that may leave some things out in their description only to find out later that its missing the one feature you really wanted it to have, do you?

A kind of bad thing with this website is that if you are not using either PayPal or Google Checkout, you have to register with Buy.com for an account with them to hold your credit card on file before you buy, which can take more time than a lot of people want to give. So, if you're an impatient person, I'd recommend getting a PayPal account or GoogleCheckout account beforehand, so you can handle your business online a whole lot easier.

I give it, a 4/5

eBay

eBay eBay eBay! eBay has become a household name in recent years, and nobody can deny hearing about eBay's self-made millionaires. Well, even if you don't think an eBay driven corporation is for you, it's still a great place to get rid of your junk, and make a lot more then a garage sale would.

The whole "shazam" about eBay is this, you, the seller can sell whatever it is, for more then a pawn shop or used item company would buy it for, while at the same time, the buyer can buy whatever it is your selling, for less then they could at a pawn shop. This concept basically means, everybody wins.

If you're using PayPal, then you have an extremely easy time buying and selling from the start. Instant payments mean quicker deliveries, so PayPal gives the sellers and buyers a huge advantage over old-fashioned postal service payments. That doesn't mean that if you don't have PayPal you can't buy and sell on eBay though!

There are more items on eBay than anywhere a single store could ever have. Anything legal to buy in our country is most likely able to be found on eBay. Looking for a car? Well you don't even have to get out of your seat. eBay even has a complete section of its website for automobiles. Looking for a 1964 Camero? Chances are you could find it there. How about a china doll set from the 40's? Bet you that have that on there too.

With 24-Hour support, connections with PayPal's convenience, along with an un-matchable selection, eBay gets a 5/5.

To go to eBay and find anything you need and more,

Whatever it is you can get it on eBay!

PayPal

If you havent heard of PayPal, then you must have been living under a rock for the last couple years. PayPal has been around for a few years now, and has grown to be a GIGANTIC enterprise. PayPal is basically an electronic bank, credit card, and a connection to your other bank accounts all at once. You can buy things directly on the internet through paypal, using either their available PayPal funds, a credit or debit card on your account, or your checking account, also on your account.

PayPal has so many features to list! You can turn your paypal account into a Money Market account that you can actively spend from and add to, while earning interest each month, and about 4% interest at that. They have their own debit cards and credit cards as well. They allow you to buy, spend, send money, and check your balance all from your SMS Cell phone text messages. Also, you can transfer the money on your paypal account to your real-world bank account, or vice-versa. PayPal can be used to setup subscription payments (Like for anti-virus' or online games), or one-time payments. eBay is a huge endorser of PayPal and you will have a lot easier time selling on there if you have it, also the convenience of getting paid, immediately after selling the item!

Thousands of businesses are now accepting paypal over the internet. From cars to cell phones, computers, even ordering pizza online. You can pay for anything through PayPal. Overall, I love PayPal, there is just one con that makes virtual goods selling much much harder. Its extremely easy to get scammed out of your money selling virtual goods like Online services, or e-books. If the customer says they didn't recieve what they paid for, then PayPal will refund them their money, with yours. Other than that one con, PayPal is an excellent company and it's something to look into for everyone.
